Meet the Bouchérs :: Marissa & Weston

Welcome to the Bouchér's Wedding Blog, so glad to have ya! We'd love for you to stay connected by subscribing to our Blog's RSS FEED so you can keep up on all the latest happenings, shoots and all things Bouchér related. While you're here be sure to leave a comment, we'd love to hear from you!

Marissa and I are a husband and wife team who own a Wedding & Boudoir photography studio based out of sunny San Diego, CA. Marissa and I have been blessed with a thriving business whose infancy began over 10 years ago and went full time all but 6 years ago in a small garage stall. Since then Bouchér has grown into a 4500 sq/ft studio with 3 wonderful employees of which include the lovely Crystal Carr (Studio Manager/Boudoir Photographer), Deena Cormier (Boudoir Photographer/Production) and Yuliana Cerda (Concierge to Bouchér Clients). The two of us have been happily married a little over 6 years now and began as high school sweethearts over 12 years ago. Our family is still rather small at a total count of 4 beings. Me, 'Riss, and our hairy kids Puddy & Elaine (our little Boston Terriers w/Seinfeld inspired names). Our passions and interests include our faith, travel, music, good books, nature, health/fitness, red wines, food, and global/local charitable organizations.

We'd like to recognize God and all our family and friends for their support over the years as well as all our clients who have been such a true pleasure to work with and who continue to impress us as human beings. Marissa and I can't thank you enough for stopping by and hope you check back in on us often!

Ashley & Eddie :: Hyatt Mission Bay, San Diego, CA

This was our first wedding at the Hyatt in Mission Bay. We found some really cool spots on their grounds and in their modern lounge-style check-in area. Ashley & Eddie were such a sweet couple, really great people to work with.

Megan & Rigo :: The El Cortez Hotel, Balboa Park, Downtown San Diego, CA

We had an awesome experience shooting with Megan & Rigo as we were able to grab shots around downtown to keep with the theme from their engagement session. We also had a chance to stop by Balboa park to give some variety to some of the other wedding party shots. The ceremony and reception both took place within the El Cortez hotel’s Don Room; which was cool. They just flipped the room come the time of the reception. BTW loved Megan’s green heels as they really complimented a lot of the shots! Nice find Megan! And Rigo your green tie really “tied” it all together. Okay, that was an embarassingly lame attempt at a joke. Hey, there was no other word that would “suit” it better. Wow, I better stop, buh-bye.

Josephine & Bikash :: La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla, CA

The La Valencia Hotel is a great venue for weddings as it provides a very convenient scenario for having everything in one location- hotel rooms for getting ready, a pretty ceremony site, and private reception room. Plus La Jolla cove is just a matter of a few hundred feet away for more shots.

Rhea & Djem :: The Immaculata, Balboa Park, Admiral Kidd, San Diego, CA

Here’s a collection of shots from Rhea & Djem’s wedding at USD’s The Immaculata Church, Balboa Park & Admiral Kidd Club. We were lucky enough to have one of the doves from the release fly right at Marissa’s lens, made for an awesome shot. The shot of Djem alone was at the Immaculata on an upper level area to the left of the church; which I only just recently found. I can’t believe how many times we’ve shot here and I didn’t know about this little gem. Although USD’s campus is beautiful to the eye, it’s not very suitable at mid-day for shooting so this find really works to deal with the sun will still providing interesting visuals. For the ceremony we shot with available light at 3200 ISO at around f/2.0 but even then it’s still a matter of having a very steady hand with a shutter at 80-100 or lower. I tend to track my lens/follow the movement of everyone during precessional to avoid blurry shots.

Alexis & Steve :: Founder’s Chapel, El Cortez Hotel, Downtown San Diego

Here’s a selection of shots from a recent wedding with Alexis & Steve. We had such a good time with them by just simply walking around the El Cortez in downtown in their full wedding garb. There were definitely some close calls with cars in the area as we were shooting in the middle of the street quite a bit. During the ceremony we shot almost everything at 3200 ISO as it’s very dark in Founder’s Chapel. But with the 5D/5D Mark II quality combined with -2.0 L capable lenses, it made for some moving, film-like grainy images. We only ended up doing a few formals at the altar due to the low-light but eventually moved out to the entry area at Founders and used the open double doors to channel the light into sort of a huge softbox (photos are in Slideshow). Again I have to say we are continually blessed to not only work with such great couples, but also with their incredible families and friends. God is good. :)

The Boudoir Divas :: Photoshoot with Becker

You may know that I (Marissa) also shoot boudoir photography at our Bouchér Studio here in San Diego. Our studio is on it’s way to become the next Disneyland of all boudoir photography studios, if I can help it ;). It’s called THE BOUDOIR DIVAS SAN DIEGO! Ladies we invite you to check us out as we just won Bridal Insider’s People’s Choice Award for San Diego’s best boudoir photographer!

And, hopefully you all know Kimberlee by now. She is one of the other “Boudoir Divas” as she and I came up with the name together a couple years ago when we started educating for boudoir photography and doing boudoir photography workshops. She is now about to hit the road for a “boudoir tour” bringing boudoir photography to your city. And Las Vegas is the first on her list!
If you are interested email info@theboudoirdivas.com

She and I are starting a new boudoir photography adventure together so we wanted some promo photos. This was my first official photo session. Weston, my hubby, takes photos of me all the time, but that’s cake. It is hard to feel silly in front of someone you have shared a bathroom with for 7 years!

The self-proclaimed male diva of photography, BECKER, was kind enough to tolerate The Boudoir Divas’ nonsense for a few hours and take some photos of us. I have to say that it was nerve wracking to be in front of the camera. K has quite a natural ability and ease with her graceful long limbs. I was very impressed by her and her moves. I, on the other hand, felt a little stuck in cement at times, but I can say that I definitely can identify with my clients a little bit more now. Visit www.thebecker.com to see all the images and crazy/fun video of him editing some of K’s dance moves.

On another funny note, when Becker twittered that he was doing a photo shoot with “The Boudoir Divas” everyone thought that we were doing a boudoir photography shoot for him! Hilarious. -M

Rhea & Djem :: Engagement shoot @ Seaport Village

We came across a really interesting piece of art at Seaport Village made up of curved iron beams and just had to shoot with it. Marissa and I were pretty excited about the shots and have to commend Rhea and Djem for doing such a great job interacting with such a funky backdrop. Seaport Village actually doesn’t allow professional photography of any kind but we somehow manage to shoot there time and again unscathed! ;) Oh now I’ve gone and said it, what a dope…I just realized we have an another engagement shoot tonight at Seaport Village!!! Knock on wood.

Kurstin & Nick :: The Engagement Session :: Balboa Park, San Diego, CA

Although we shoot at Balboa Park quite often, we were stoked to find a couple new spots while exploring with Kurstin & Nick. The sun went down rather quick so we also had more time for night shots with our video light. We did some backlighting with it and were pretty excited with the outcome of the rim-lit effect combined with Balboa Park’s street lamps. Kurstin and Nick ended up going with one of our Engagement Guestbooks which features about 20 pages of custom layouts that include shots from the engagement session with layout space available for wedding guests to leave a personal message for the bride and groom with a sharpie. We actually just shot Kurstin & Nick’s wedding last Saturday and countless people went out of their way to tell us how much they loved the guestbook album idea; even the caterers. They’re always a hit! ;p

Val & Rob :: Founder’s Chapel, La Jolla Shores Hotel

We had some fun walking around and shooting on Prospect in La Jolla with Val & Rob. Tourists always love seeing a bride and groom and never hesitate to snap a bunch of shots even though they have no idea who they are haha. Be sure to check out the following slideshow link for 90+ more shots from the day…

VAL & ROB’S WEDDING SLIDESHOW

The only thing that’s tough for me when shooting on Prospect is passing by the Haagen Dazs shop with two cameras in my hand instead of being double-fisted with two ice cream cones. Speaking of ice cream, am I the only one out there who is ravenous for bubble gum ice cream? I actually had a word with our local grocer last night about requesting that they stock Breyer’s Bubble Yum Bubble Gum Ice Cream. They told me to find the UPC code, then to put in a request and they’ll try to get it. I’ll keep you posted as I’m sure you’re all insanely curious about the outcome ;p. I’m a total health nut but I do have my weaknesses. Luckily this specific flavor is surprisingly low fat/low calorie. Ok, this is dumb, gotta go.

Ellyn & Matt :: Engagement Shoot @ Scripps Pier

Wow…Marissa and I seriously had such a good time with this shoot. I remember being waist deep in the ocean with dress pants on and all my gear thinking…these shots will be worth possibly soaking our gear in saltwater…so just keep shooting! Marissa and I were just looking over the images a minute ago before posting and we were wishing we had a shot of us in the ocean like this first image. For those of you who don’t know, the ocean is her first love in life, I’m a close second ;)

Ellyn & Matt are actually from out of state but we were lucky enough to cross paths with them when Matt decided to follow up on an article about pro surfer Sunny Garcia’s recent wedding. After some googling, Matt came across our engagement shoot with Sunny & Colleen, loved the look of the shoot, and gave us a call. We’re so stoked that Ellyn & Matt made it out to San Diego for the shoot as we couldn’t be happier with the turnout. Ellyn & Matt were a true pleasure to work with as they went with anything and everything we threw at them and really stepped up to just enjoy the whole experience.
