Denica & Andrew :: Gettin’ urban in “America’s finest city”

Denica & Andrew specifically wanted some urban-style engagement photos so we knew downtown had more than enough to offer in that area. We first met up for a drink at the new, hip Australian restaurant “Bondi”. Marissa and I decided to take a walk into uncharted territory and just pull over and shoot whatever jumped out at us. Since Denica & Andrew were total gamers, it seriously couldn’t of went better. While walking around the city a Coke Zero truck was giving out free cans of soda so we grabbed a few, pounded ‘em and put a jolt of caffeine behind our next sequence of shots.

So we’re getting ready to shoot in this graffiti-laden parking lot when suddenly an elderly man pulls up in his powered wheelchair and says….”OKAY, GET YOUR CAMERAS READY…YOU GUYS REPEAT AFTER ME…READY? “YEAH WE’RE READY”……….”TESTICLES!”.

True story, check out the reaction on Denica & Andrew’s faces. Hilarious. Then he just simply powered on out of there and disappeared into the urban sunset. What a character; you gotta love downtown’s melting pot of interesting people from all walks of life.

Next time you’re in Downtown SD, check out this sick shoe store called “BLENDS”

After our recent engagement shoot with Denica & Andrew we were walking back to the car and this shoe store called “BLENDS” caught our eye. The minimalist, contemporary design immediately drew us inside and we were also stoked to see one of the sickest collections of shoes lining insets on the store walls. But being that I have skis for feet at size 13, all the kicks I wanted to try weren’t available in my size so I had to put my tail between my legs in defeat as we left the store. :(. This is nothing new for me though, this happens at almost every shoe store as most don’t need to cater to the occasional sasquatch haha. We got to chat it up with the owner Edwin Negado and told him we’d blog a few shots since we liked the store so much so hope ya like ‘em Edwin! :). Be sure to check out the store though as they will most likely have normal shoe sizes :)

Stephanie & Devon…& Mabel the beagle :: Fiesta Island Getaway

So we had two firsts for this shoot, this was not only our first shoot on Fiesta Island but also our first shoot at a dog park. Who would’ve thought a dog park was so pretty to shoot?! An expanse of flowing green fields with a coastal backdrop and 50 dogs frolicking? Sign me up. Stephanie & Devon brought their little beagle Mabel, who is adorable by the way. However Mabel had her own idea of how the shoot should go. Basically take 5 photos with these dumb photographers and then bail. lol. How can you blame a sweet little dog though when they are placed in an environment that is equivalent to Doggie Disneyland? Marissa and I are super happy with the shots and we think Mabel will be too. :)

Heather & Justin :: Beach Eng shoot in February?! Gotta love San Diego Weather.

Heather & Justin’s engagement shoot was down at La Jolla Cove and it couldn’t of been clearer or warmer out for a February evening on the coast. I was actually on the phone with an insurance adjuster earlier today to handle an accident claim and he asked me what the weather conditions were at the time of the accident and I replied 70 degrees, clear, etc. He laughed and I couldn’t help but feel bad that we’ve got it so good while he probably spends his February mornings shaving ice off his windshield.  The accident claim was in relation to the other night when some guy rear ended our 4runner his Vespa, lol. The part that wasn’t funny though is that we just made our final payment on the 4runner lease and the contract’s maturity date is up in a matter of a week or two, LAME. But, no one was hurt so that’s what really counts.

Oh, right, back to the shoot…sorry, went down a rabbit hole there….These two lovebirds we’re awesome to work with, they totally ran with it and had a good time. SO IMPORTANT. I swear that Heather could be related to Julia Roberts, right?!

This is how lame I am

(love this pic above, check out her cute site)

I have a confession to make. Marissa here by the way. Sometimes, when I want to take a few minute break from working, I Google “silly boston terrier” images. I just love bostons. All of them. They are so funny to me. If anyone else is a boston owner you know what I am talking about. I just saw a “red” boston for the second time the other day. If you have never seen one of these, keep your eyes pealed, you are in for a treat. The recent red boston that I saw had red and white hair, a reddish brown nose and light eyes. He was so cute. I didn’t even get mad when he strolled up and peed on the bag I had set down to pet him. Anyway the boston pics I found on my break today were especially cute. Wanted to share my nerdy pastime.

Our Furry Kids…. yet another post about our dogs

I know, I know, I am the cliche chick who thinks her dogs are her kids, but come on, until I do have children you have to give me a break for releasing some of my motherly inclinations on my dogs. This is Elaine below, or Lainey, as she also responds to the ten nicknames we have for her. She is 6 years old but I swear she still acts and looks like a puppy. You always know how she is feeling because she wears her heart on her sleave. She is so loving and sweet.

This is how we have to exercise our dogs! We tried walking them, even jogging with them. But they just have too much energy. Lainey has a heart murmur so her doc says that serious cardio is very important to her health. Weston figured out that the only way to get her winded is if she actually pulls all 200 pounds of him on his skateboard around the apartment complex. She loves it. That dog has some serious torque. Puddy is a little easier to workout, he just runs alongside my beach cruiser. They are the famous dogs of our Torrey Hills apartment complex, evoking smiles from even the most serious old grumpies.

Paris casting call!!! The shoot is on us!

Weston and I will be doing a demo engagement shoot in Paris on April 4, 09 for our Boudoir Divas workshop attendees. We are looking for a loving, energetic couple who would want a photo shoot done in the City of Light, Paris! The shoot will be a few hours long, so even though you would have to pay for your own airfare, the shoot is on us. What a great excuse to spend a few days in Paris. I honestly cannot even begin to imagine how cool these images are going to look. Talk about cool artwork for your living room, I am almost jealous! ;) Above are some gorgeous images that are getting us really excited about the shoot. For more info please email us at info@boucherphotography.com Past clients will receive top priority, but the invitation is open to any couple.

Photography is endless….

Wow. I love what I do. We are at the WPPI convention (the biggest photography convention there is) and we are learning so much. I have been very inspired. We have met an assortment of wonderful people here and we just feel so lucky to be as involved in this industry as we are.

We should be back to the office on Monday. What’s funny is we went 4 straight days without even going outside. I haven’t seen the sunshine in 8 days! From hosting a workshop and demo shoot to prepping our booth, we were seriously busy. Can wait to get back to my beautiful So Cal. Living in a casino hotel is the equivalent of living in the desert. I can’t wait soak in the ocean air. I should have bottled it and brought it with me. - M

LOVE is all you need

Weston, Marissa, and I have been out of the office for the past few days because we are attending the Wedding & Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) tradeshow and convention in Las Vegas.  It’s been an action-packed week!  The Boudoir Divas (Marissa and Kimberlee) hosted a workshop Thursday & Friday, followed by the “KISS photo shoot” on Saturday.  Sunday we all set up the Divas tradeshow booth.  Amidst working at the booth, listening to speakers, and attending dinner parties to mingle with other professionals in the field, we’ve also been sure to have some fun.

On Saturday, we saw “The Beatles LOVE” by Cirque Du Soleil.  It was a cute coincidence that we ended up at a show called “Love” on Valentine’s Day.  The show was amazing; we all loved it.  Ha ha, but seriously, it is definitely a must-see.  My favorite moment was at the end of the show when we were all standing arm-in-arm singing “All You Need Is Love.”

Here are some shots of us expressing how excited we were about the show :).. Crystal

Preparing for more inspiration

That’s us- camera on timer!

In 2006 Weston and I jetted off to Europe, some of you may have read our long winded account of the whole up and down experience on our old blog. As wonderful as it was (the pic above says it all)  to say the typical line, “it was a learning experience,” would be an understatement.

In late March and April, we are super duper stoked to say, that we get to take what we have learned and do it again! Last time it was France, Barcelona, Italy. This time it will be France (kicking it off with our Boudoir Divas workshop in Paris) and then road trippen it to Bruges and taking a ferry to the UK to see London. Since Weston and I will undoubtedly both be shooting, I think we will for sure have to buy ten more memory cards. Well, actually, what I am really hoping to do is bring my laptop and actually blog regularly to share all the happenings and craziness.

What really got me thinking about this trip is that I am leaving for our Vegas workshop tomorrow morning and you would think that I am going to on a five month adventure or something. I can’t imagine what is going to go into the Paris production! :) I mean really, the planning to pull this off and the packing and to-do lists, oh the to-do lists are unreal!!! BUT, I think we are almost done and ready to drive to Vegas tomorrow and I am excited to say that I feel totally prepared. Bring it on Europe, I am not scared of you this time! - MB

Trying to keep up with the whole blog thing is tough

So some of you may have noticed that WB and I are not the best at this thing called a blog. We really, really want to be, but at times it can be hard to be diligent about it. So while I was thinking about it I decided to come on here and give you a few tidbits about what is happening in our lives at this very moment….

At this moment, on this blustery Friday night:

- Weston is designing Melissa and Adam’s album while listening to DMX. Let’s hope your album intro doesn’t start with “Ride or die!” Naptons! LOL

- I am overwhelmed at how many things, post it notes, piles of paper, and to-dos are on my desk. I can’t work like this. I really need to learn to be tidy.

- The dogs are sleeping at my feet while I work. They ran out of dog food this morning so I gave them a bowl of dog treats instead and now I am really paying for it because I had no idea something that weighs 15 lbs could create such a pungent odor.

- Kimee just said, “It’s almost nine o’ clock,” and my instant response was “ahhhhhhh. Let’s get outta here.”

So we are going to go eat now. Kimee is visiting for biz and we have the pleasure of hosting her. I think she n I are going to convince WB to watch “The Duchess” tonight. Shhhh. He doesn’t know yet.
