Christine & Kris :: Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla, CA

Christine & Kris’ wedding was the first we’ve shot at the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla and I have to say that it made for an incredibly interesting setting. I would highly recommend it to any of our clients as a potential venue as it’s extremely accommodating for all the days events. They have a huge room for the bride to prepare in, a great ceremony site terrace overlooking the ocean, and the master gallery entrance of the museum is used for the reception space. It’s also perfect for photos as you can shoot in and around certain areas of the museum and the beach is just a few steps away as well. The foods featured were hands down, the best we’ve ever tasted at any wedding. There were several different stations with extremely creative and flavor-laden types of food. Nice job on the food you guys, wow! Christine and Kris were so great to work with as they loved running with any idea we had and took direction incredibly well. And although the sun didn’t shine as planned it made for a pleasant temperature and soft, even lighting for all the outdoor shots we got.

You’ll see a shot below where Kris and his groomsmen climb the rock wall directly across the street from the museum. This caught us totally off guard but you just gotta love having the chance to get a shot of something special to the groom as all these guys are close friends and climb the wall often.

Brooke & Jerrod :: The Darlington House, La Jolla CA

Brooke & Jerrod were a true pleasure to work with and I’m just ecstatic about the way the images turned out. I think this will be a record for most images in a single post but I just couldn’t help myself! I want to personally thank Cindy & Joe for the referral. The slideshow link below showcases quite a few more so be sure to check that out too.

Brooke & Jerrod’s Slideshow

Brooke made it really easy for Marissa and I to get a feel for what her and Jerrod were looking for in their images by tearing out some of her favorite shots from Bridal magazines and passing them on to us before the wedding. Although Marissa and I have a certain look or style to our images; we still like to fine tune or focus on what a certain client may want more of come the wedding day. I mean why waste time shooting goofy shots of the bride & groom when we know they aren’t into that? This doesn’t mean we don’t shoot goofy shots but maybe its better suited for another couple with that dynamic. Brooke specifically wanted classy, sexy shots of her and Jerrod and that’s exactly what we spent our time on most with their portrait time together.

We definitely choose to showcase our more dramatic or romantic images the most online as Marissa and I are passionate people and gravitate to that style naturally. But what you’ll find most from all our wedding shots as a whole, are a variety of shots and styles intertwined amongst the 900-1500+ images we shoot on average.

With each part of the wedding day, or subject matter at that moment, comes the need for a certain lens, angle, vibe, reading of your subject, look, etc. We don’t want to be confined to a certain look all the time as it does not always apply to every scenario or client 100% of the time. In short, we know that if it were our wedding, we’d want a great variety to the photography because that’s what a wedding is…a variety of events, moods, people, personalities, and moments all in a single day.

Will n’ Jada Smith are awesome! :: Grand Opening of New Village Leadership Academy, Malibu, CA

My hubby, Weston, and I had the huge honor of photographing the grand opening party that Will and Jada Smith held for their new school, New Village Leadership Academy, in Malibu. They had quite an attendance and the school is going to be amazing. I was very moved by their generosity and the love that they have for children and their community. We felt so blessed to be a part of this wonderful event. Obviously we are under contract and won’t be displaying photos, but we just wanted to share just how touched we were by this incredible couple. Thanks Traci (a bride of ours) for thinking of us for the killer referral. We owe you!

Anya & Aron :: St. Gregory The Great Church, Scripps Ranch :: La Jolla Cove

Anya & Aron’s wedding was a breeze to shoot and made up of some really great people. Seeing these two families come together was an honor to witness and yes, even after shooting this many weddings together, me and Marissa still get choked up at ceremonies ;) I think if we didn’t we’d be losing touch with what we’re all about.

Anya & Aron chose to see each other before the ceremony; of which over half of our couples now opt for. Honestly it is such a great way to get a majority of the photography set aside so that after the ceremony the bride & groom can basically show up for their cocktail hour on time and be set free to par-tay! All the major photography portraits have been taken care of at that point including getting ready shots, bride & groom solos, family portraits, wedding party. etc. Of course this isn’t the traditional approach but we’ve witnessed countless, very moving moments between the bride & groom seeing each other in a predetermined location before the ceremony. It’s often more private and more intimate. Moms love it too in terms of the timing of the photos because they haven’t cried off all their makeup yet at the ceremony! ;p

Jen & Kyle :: Engagement Shoot w/ a Toronto Blue Jay!

We met up with Jen & Kyle for their e-shoot on Kyle’s old stomping grounds; Point Loma Nazarene’s Carroll B. Land Stadium. What an amazing setting for a baseball field. It was cool hearing about Jen & Kyle’s lifestyle and travel involving Kyle (Phillips) playing for the Toronto Blue Jays. These two were really fun to shoot and the fact that they brought props and their Pug told us that they showed up with their game faces on! Check it out!
