Vanessa & George :: Palos Verdes, CA :: The Wedding

To say that Vanessa & George’s wedding was fun would the understatement of the century. From Transformers-themed cuff links, ice sculptures and garters to short buses, Irish Pubs and beyond, this was no ordinary wedding ;). If you need a lesson on how to “par-tay”, watch and learn lol. Gorgeous couple, incredible setting, amazing people all around, wow, yeah this one goes down in the record books for us. Anyway, we’ll let the photos do the talkin’. We love you Vanessa & George!!!

Lauren & Alden :: San Diego, CA :: The Wedding

Any groom willing to get into a shopping cart with his groomsman behind the wheel is our kind of client lol. Lauren & Alden had such a fun group in their wedding party. And not only were they fun, but they also pulled their weight all day and didn’t complain once. This is rare, trust me. Usually wedding parties get all fussy and get impatient with taking photos, etc and basically forget whose wedding it is haha. Lauren & Alden…Marissa and I could tell that you are dearly loved by an amazing collection of family & friends; thank you for choosing us to be alongside to capture it all. :)

The processing I did on these shots was fun as I’ve been utilizing a lot more local adjustments in Lightroom along with a WACOM pen and tablet. I’m also speeding through shoots much faster now that I’m using DQ Studios Quikeys keyboard unit and Lightroom software module.

An & Matt :: Yacht & Horse Carriage & America’s Finest City = WOW.

Marissa and I love boats or just being on the water in general, we actually have looked into living on one some day. So when we heard that An & Matt’s wedding reception was being held on a huge yacht, we were immediately reciting the song by The Lonely Island “I’m on a boat!”, “if you on the shore then you shore not me-yo!” lol.

Anyway we saw some amazing views of downtown San Diego during the reception and were again reminded of what a beautiful city we live in. I often wonder how people that don’t live in San Diego get out of bed every morning ;p. Maybe their secret is that they don’t have to deal with the ridiculous cost of living here, hehe.

An & Matt were one of the kindest, most gentle couples we’ve ever met. Truly, you two are one of a kind and we’re honored to have documented your big day. Nice exit by the way…come right off a yacht with hundreds of people holding sparklers, leading you to a white horse and carriage. WOW.

Heather & Justin :: El Cortez Hotel & Admiral Kidd Club, San Diego, CA

Here’s a few of our favorite images from Heather & Justin’s wedding at the El Cortez Hotel & Admiral Kidd Club. We were a bit pressed for time earlier on in the day and still needed more shots of Heather & Justin together- so we acted fast and used our video light inside the reception area seconds before the guests entered to get the shot with the purple uplight background and shadows of the couple on the wall. Turned out to be our favorite shot of the day! I believe it was shot at 3200 ISO which is what I love about the Canon 5D Mark II, it just does so well in low light with the right lens. If we have any photographer’s visiting our blog out there please do comment and let us know if you have any questions about our shots :)

Kim & Patrick :: Downtown San Diego, CA :: The Wedding

Kim & Patrick’s shots were a mixture of shooting into the sun, using buildings, parking garage gates, air vents, and whatever else looked interesting. We did some of the shots at Balboa Park and the rest around the outside of El Cortez Hotel in downtown. More than anything we’re looking for quality of light first, and then the background second. All the shots featured were taken with available light. Some of the first dance reception shots were lit with the videographer’s light, which is always nice :). And no the flower girls running across the frame in the wedding party shot was not staged, just got lucky!

Stephanie & Devon :: La Jolla, CA :: The Wedding

This wedding went incredibly smooth for Marissa and I; I swear the weddings where everything takes place at the same location are so much easier on everyone. Things stay on time, people don’t get lost in transit, and the schedule generally goes according to plan. This is so huge when it comes to Marissa and I simply getting what we need, versus getting shots that we absolutely love because we weren’t rushed or cut short creatively. Stephanie & Devon, you two were so relaxed and ready to par-tay, gotta love it!

Kurstin & Nick :: Seagrove Park, The Brigantine, Del Mar, CA

Both Seagrove Park and The Brigantine in Del Mar were new venues for us so it was really refreshing to shoot at some new spots. What’s cool about Seagrove Park is that the train tracks are just a few steps away, along with the beach of course. The Brigantine also really impressed us with their reception area behind their restaurant that overlooks the coaster tracks and the Del Mar race tracks. Kurstin and Nick were really thoughtful people and we absolutely loved their friends and family. It was a perfect day and I couldn’t be happier with the shots, congrats you two!

Christine & Brian :: The Wedding :: Rancho Bernardo Inn, San Diego, CA

As promised here are the shots from Christine & Brian’s wedding at Rancho Bernardo Inn. This was a great day for Marissa and I as it was almost like a high school reunion to see so many familiar faces from our hometown of Ramona, CA. I have to say that the “Sing/Dance-off” at the reception was the most entertaining event I’ve ever seen at a wedding! I’m not talking about when people just make a line on either side and randomly dance down the center. I’m talking about a fully planned performance from several different “contestants”(yes an award was even given out). LOL, unforgettable.

Ashley & Eddie :: Hyatt Mission Bay, San Diego, CA

This was our first wedding at the Hyatt in Mission Bay. We found some really cool spots on their grounds and in their modern lounge-style check-in area. Ashley & Eddie were such a sweet couple, really great people to work with.

Megan & Rigo :: The El Cortez Hotel, Balboa Park, Downtown San Diego, CA

We had an awesome experience shooting with Megan & Rigo as we were able to grab shots around downtown to keep with the theme from their engagement session. We also had a chance to stop by Balboa park to give some variety to some of the other wedding party shots. The ceremony and reception both took place within the El Cortez hotel’s Don Room; which was cool. They just flipped the room come the time of the reception. BTW loved Megan’s green heels as they really complimented a lot of the shots! Nice find Megan! And Rigo your green tie really “tied” it all together. Okay, that was an embarassingly lame attempt at a joke. Hey, there was no other word that would “suit” it better. Wow, I better stop, buh-bye.

Josephine & Bikash :: La Valencia Hotel, La Jolla, CA

The La Valencia Hotel is a great venue for weddings as it provides a very convenient scenario for having everything in one location- hotel rooms for getting ready, a pretty ceremony site, and private reception room. Plus La Jolla cove is just a matter of a few hundred feet away for more shots.

Rhea & Djem :: The Immaculata, Balboa Park, Admiral Kidd, San Diego, CA

Here’s a collection of shots from Rhea & Djem’s wedding at USD’s The Immaculata Church, Balboa Park & Admiral Kidd Club. We were lucky enough to have one of the doves from the release fly right at Marissa’s lens, made for an awesome shot. The shot of Djem alone was at the Immaculata on an upper level area to the left of the church; which I only just recently found. I can’t believe how many times we’ve shot here and I didn’t know about this little gem. Although USD’s campus is beautiful to the eye, it’s not very suitable at mid-day for shooting so this find really works to deal with the sun will still providing interesting visuals. For the ceremony we shot with available light at 3200 ISO at around f/2.0 but even then it’s still a matter of having a very steady hand with a shutter at 80-100 or lower. I tend to track my lens/follow the movement of everyone during precessional to avoid blurry shots.

Alexis & Steve :: Founder’s Chapel, El Cortez Hotel, Downtown San Diego

Here’s a selection of shots from a recent wedding with Alexis & Steve. We had such a good time with them by just simply walking around the El Cortez in downtown in their full wedding garb. There were definitely some close calls with cars in the area as we were shooting in the middle of the street quite a bit. During the ceremony we shot almost everything at 3200 ISO as it’s very dark in Founder’s Chapel. But with the 5D/5D Mark II quality combined with -2.0 L capable lenses, it made for some moving, film-like grainy images. We only ended up doing a few formals at the altar due to the low-light but eventually moved out to the entry area at Founders and used the open double doors to channel the light into sort of a huge softbox (photos are in Slideshow). Again I have to say we are continually blessed to not only work with such great couples, but also with their incredible families and friends. God is good. :)

Val & Rob :: Founder’s Chapel, La Jolla Shores Hotel

We had some fun walking around and shooting on Prospect in La Jolla with Val & Rob. Tourists always love seeing a bride and groom and never hesitate to snap a bunch of shots even though they have no idea who they are haha. Be sure to check out the following slideshow link for 90+ more shots from the day…

VAL & ROB’S WEDDING SLIDESHOW

The only thing that’s tough for me when shooting on Prospect is passing by the Haagen Dazs shop with two cameras in my hand instead of being double-fisted with two ice cream cones. Speaking of ice cream, am I the only one out there who is ravenous for bubble gum ice cream? I actually had a word with our local grocer last night about requesting that they stock Breyer’s Bubble Yum Bubble Gum Ice Cream. They told me to find the UPC code, then to put in a request and they’ll try to get it. I’ll keep you posted as I’m sure you’re all insanely curious about the outcome ;p. I’m a total health nut but I do have my weaknesses. Luckily this specific flavor is surprisingly low fat/low calorie. Ok, this is dumb, gotta go.
